The exhibition presents a selection of work by young authors, thirteen graduates, including three teachers (former alumni) of Department of Painting and other media at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. All of these authors have spent part of their studies, or even the whole lenght at the studio on Koceľova street in Bratislava. Presented authors were born between 70ties and mid 80ties of the 20th century. In their paintings we can follow not only the particularities of individual artistic expression, but also that what is related, stemming from creative sprituality of this studio.

A common sense of their artistic approach is an introvert character of their painting. The works

speak in sensitive way about the personal – internal issues of the authors as a result of survival of their own reality, their personal impressions and emotions which allows a penetration of intimate melancholy into the painting. Alienation, loneliness, the spirit of the place, man´s relationship to the environment, these are the themes that connect these authors.

If we had to name in general the influence of the studio in the experience of the authors, it is its orientation towards classical painting technique which was later on (in a deeper stage) leading towards resarch of referential possibilities of this classical medium, but not in a modernist antagonist spirit of denial, but to the contrary,

by underlining its exceptional position: as a special and sovereign medium which is recording external reality and also an internal, somehow essential experience with it. Uncovering of the nature of artwork mostly on the level of esthetic sensibility is evident in the work of these authors.

The authors use often photography during the proces of creation. But there is never an intention of creating a concurrence to the painting medium in the aim of an absolute description of reality, or imitation of the visual image. Photography for these authors means mostly a possibility to get again closer to the moments lost in time, or in memory.
